Woman Trying to Commit Suicide Rescued in Lagos



The Commissioner of Police Lagos State Command Fatai Owoseni has revealed that barely one week after a medical doctor, committed suicide by jumping off Third Mainland Bridge into lagoon, two women have on Friday, attempted to do likewise.

CP Fatai Owoseni, who spoke with newsmen at the Command Headquaters Ikeja said a woman identified as Mrs Abigael Ogunyinka also attempted to commit suicide after jumping into lagoon of the popular Third Mainland Bridge.


He said another woman identified as Taiwo Titilayo Momoh who attempted to jump into the Lagoon from the popular Third Mainland Bridge on Friday, March 24, was rescued by the operatives of the Lagos State Police Command.

According to Police source, the woman Mrs Ogunyinka was on Friday, rescued by local fishermen and policemen, after she jumped into the lagoon from the Carter Bridge.
The woman speaking on her reason to end her life said she jumped into the lagoon because she was owing N150,000 borrowed from a microfinance bank, adding that she collected loan to fund her ‘amala’ business and has been in default for two weeks. She added that she can no longer cope with life.

The Commissioner stated that as part of the efforts to curb the rising state of suicide and attempted suicide in the State, the Police would no longer allow drivers to park on the bridge without any tangible reason. He also added that the Police in the State would no longer allow pedestrians to walk on bridges in the State.

CP Fatai Owoseni, that the Force is making efforts to authenticate the woman’s story by contacting the bank and help pay.
